Literacy and Reading Programme

The tutor reading programme is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the literacy skills of Key Stage 3 pupils through engaging reading sessions led by tutors. By having tutors read aloud to the class while students follow along in their individual copies of the books, the programme seeks to bridge the literacy gap for disadvantaged learners who often lag behind their peers in terms of reading proficiency. Through this model of fluent reading, students not only expand their vocabulary but also grasp the rhythm and tone of the text, thereby honing their own reading abilities. Moreover, this programme exposes pupils to a diverse range of literature, fostering a deeper appreciation for various cultures and settings. It is essential that each student has their own copy of the book to ensure active participation and engagement during the reading sessions. By following the text as it is read aloud, students can reinforce their reading comprehension skills and make meaningful connections between spoken and written language. Ultimately, the tutor reading programme serves as a valuable tool in nurturing a love for reading and equipping students with the necessary skills to succeed academically. We are hoping to raise much needed funds to support our Literacy and Reading Programme in school which will enable all pupils to have access to a copy of their own book. All money raised will go directly towards supporting this. Thank you in advance for your help.
