Revamp Our Library Appeal

At Holyoakes Field, we are passionate about reading! We hope to instil a love of reading in all our pupils. We want them to read for pleasure out of choice. In order to achieve this, we need to inspire them with wonderful new books! We will be getting a brand new library when the new school is built but don’t have the budget for books, so all of our current books will be coming with us! We would like to raise the funds for a collection of Fiction Books, this will include bilingual texts and graphic novels that the children can use for free reading and home reading. The aim to raise £1000. This money will not only replace ‘well loved’ books and books that we currently do not have, but also keep a reserve to buy new titles that are released as the year goes on, ensuring the children always have something new and exciting to read. Plus, it’s that time of year when your children are starting to think about buying Christmas cards. Instead of sending Christmas cards and/or presents to staff this year, why not break with tradition and donate the money you would normally spend onto our fundraising page to buy a book for the school instead? Why not wish the whole class Happy Christmas from your child. It will be the gift that just keeps on giving! What’s more, it’s an environmentally friendly alternative and saves all that time Maybe you own a business and have a small charity budget that you could use to donate to our cause, or maybe you work for a business who might be willing to support us. Your name will be seen on the donation page (consider it free advertising). Reading is a skill we take for granted, yet one that is essential for being able to get on in life and aim high. As a child grows up, being able to read well not only enables them to discover new facts but also opens their minds up to a world of new ideas, stories and opportunities. Reading also improves spelling, quality of writing and stimulates conversation. Please do not hesitate to contact me on 01527 62928 if you have any questions regarding our fundraising campaign. Kind regards, Debbie Roberts School Business Manager

The wonderful thing about books is you can go on many adventures and never leave the comfort of your own armchair. You can never be lonely with a good book for company.

I'm a retired librarian who was fortunate enough in 1952 to have a library in my primary school and was encouraged to read at home and school from the age of 4. All children need access to attractive new books at a very early age for a lifelong pleasure.
